Say My Name, Say My Name
I’ve learned to love my name. But it wasn’t always that way. I remember when I was a young child, I was incredibly frustrated that no one else shared my name. I also didn’t like the fact that it’s spelling was not intuitive to most people, and my name was (and is) constantly misspelled. However when I started becoming interested in Judaism, I was surprised and delighted that my name was distinctively Hebrew; to the [...]

Outlook Means Everything
Last week, I was talking to a co-worker with pre-teens about youth and angst issues. As a pre-teen, I experienced a lot of angst at the fact that I was being raised by “old-fashioned” Grandparents that never let me do anything fun…and also the fact that me and my relatively young mother did not get along. I felt like an outsider in many ways. But thankfully I grew up and learned to see and appreciate [...]

Who Do You Work For?
Years ago, when someone asked you “Who do you work for?”; it was a very easy question to answer. You worked for someone…a person or a business, and that was that. Nowadays, the question can be a bit trickier. Even in my old position at California University of PA, I worked for them, but because they were part of PASSHE, I was paid by them, which made me a public state employee. But if anyone [...]

5 Customer Service Lessons I Learned From Being A Waitress
My new job as a customer service representative (which sounds menial, but really isn’t) has shifted my professional views a teeny-tiny bit. What is interesting is how many of my peers pity me a bit for having to deal with “the customers” so much. I on the other hand am not deterred by it at all. Yes, we sell a product, but it is the experience (service, relationship, etc.) with us that makes us noteworthy. [...]

Esther was not the scariest thing in “The Orphan”
I’m really not into horror movies…especially the new ones. To me, being afraid, startled and disgusted isn’t really my idea of good entertainment. However my BF loves them…so for him, I’ll indulge. A couple of nights back, we opted to watch “The Orphan”; a horror movie that actually caught my eye due to the villain’s Jewish name (though she wasn’t Jewish at all it turns out) and the twisted premise of a child being a [...]

Seal and Heidi – Was Anyone Ever Rooting For Them?
Most people who know me are aware of my general apathy towards celebrity “news” and gossip. I love movies, TV and music; but what famous people do in their personal lives does not pique my interest. On top of that, I know almost nothing about either Seal or Heidi Klum (although I do have Seal’s Kiss From A Rose song in my collection because it was on the Batman Forever soundtrack). However I was bummed [...]

Rethinking the Saying “Overqualified for the Job”
There is a lot of discussion and advice out there for all types of job seekers; including those who are unemployed or underemployed — in spite of having a good deal of experience and/or education. Since I am not an HR professional, I will not bother to rehash the suggestions coming from that side of table. But I will add my $0.02 as a job seeker who sometimes find myself in this situation. Many people [...]

10 Pitfalls About Interracial Relationships
I should start off with an apology at the negative tone of this post’s title; but I believe that people should know the negatives upfront, get past them (if they want to) and then go on to pursue their dreams. I love sharing my experiences and opinions with others (hence why I’m a blogger). Dating interracially is one of the topics I have no issues talking about. However, in the past 24 hours, I was [...]

Pay Day Loans – A Lifeline (sometimes)
Well my checkbook register is looking very scary right now. Due to a “return item unpaid” from my November payment to T-Mobile, my account was shaken a bit. Then due to an unauthorized draft of $30 (by some mystery company), a pro-rated car insurance payment that was $22 dollars higher than usual (that’s my fault…I forgot about that) and an older check (I wrote it in October…only cleared 2 days ago). Couple all of this [...]
